VISION AND AIMS
The aims and goals of HeSHPO include the following:
- To promote Pediatric Hematology-Oncology in all fields and encourage the communication and collaboration of scientists involved in Pediatric Hematology Oncology nationally and internationally.
- To represent and support Pediatric Hematologists Oncologists in Greece and abroad.
- The organization of Hellenic and International conferences focusing on recognized scientific advances and new data arising from research in Pediatric Hematology Oncology.
- The active collaboration with international Pediatric Hematology and Oncology centers and societies.
- To mediate and facilitate national collaboration protocols and promote registries of treatment combinations, epidemiology, and genetics, with the aim of the best treatment and outcome of Greek patients.
- The promotion and organization or treatment, epidemiology, and genetic registries of children with neoplastic and benign hematological diseases across the country, towards the best available treatment for these patients.
- The promotion and conduct of a reliable, up-to-date national epidemiological database, comparable to respective bases of other countries.
- The active participation at a comprehensive design of a National Action Plan against Childhood and adolescence cancer.
- The organization of an annual educational program for young colleagues. Complementary to this, HeSPHO aims at raising awareness and improving public knowledge concerning preventive and therapeutic measures as well as socioeconomic aspects of malignant and benign hematological diseases in children and adolescents.
- The recognition of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology as an official sub-specialty in Pediatrics in Greece.
- The design and conduct of multi-centered clinical studies for cancer and blood diseases in children. HeSPHO is already an active member of several international protocols.
